One family’s story of survival

Maiday Khan’s eight children were having breakfast when the ground suddenly started shaking on October 8, 2005. They ran outside as their home collapsed behind them. All family members survived without any major injuries, though they lost the cow that Mr. Khan considered a major asset. …….

In early January, Maiday Khan’s family received 14 corrugated galvanized iron (CGI) sheets from Save the Children. They used this to construct a simple shelter, placing their tent inside for added insulation. Mr. Khan says that he will use CGI sheets and the shelter kit to construct a permanent home when the snow melts.
